Hello all.

Real life has taken over - and you know - it's just more fun. I left the university (and it's dolce vita) about 2 years ago and EVE Online even longer before that. Two times this year I had an invitation to play for free which I used, but the game really can not lure and hold me anymore. No MMO can anymore - I think I have just outgrown this phase. (Please do not take offense in that).

I however, supported MiningBuddy for another 3 years after I left EVE, giving help to whoever needed it. In the entire 5 years of operation I have only received 1 (one) donation of "real" money, and a few in game ISK from "the usual suspects". At the same time I got too many complaints, rude comments and things you do not want to hear about. I am mentioning these facts just for your information and comparison. I never intended MiningBuddy to be a profit item, hence I made it OpenSource from the start.

But with these facts, the fact that I was the lone coder (and I broke the 17,000 line milestone, yay), designer, bugtester, support staff and, well, the jack of all trades I did an objective evaluation on things. On the one hand I have my real life with things that are fun (friends, work) and on the other supporting software for a game 3 years after I have left it.

Taking this step was not an easy thing to do -- but I am hanging my hat at the door. I declare Project MiningBuddy both a success and terminated. Thank you for everyone who made this a screaming success: The Betatesters, the forum users and staff, the bugreporters, the people who did alternate hosting site and last but not least you - the gamer who used this application.

How will things continue? I will keep the site online and operational for educational and/or general use. I will keep current hostees online until they choose not to extend. I will keep all download files up and operational. Creating new accounts on MiningBuddy (hosting) is disabled, development has come to a complete halt (this affects bugfixes as well).



I hope you enjoyed MiningBuddy as much as I enjoyed coding it for you.

It seems a server side upgrade broke all webbased applications, resulting in a 500 server error. This issue has been resolved. Sorry about that!

Today I am releasing v0.6.1 of MiningBuddy, a pure bugfix version which addresses all the bugs reported on the forum over a period of 6 months. I strongly recommend everyone to upgrade to this release.

The 0.7 release is due to ship in about 4 weeks. This will focus on lots of new stuff.

Hey all,

I am taking a SUMMER BREAK with coding. Its way too hot to sit inside and hit the keyboard. I will check in once in a while for support on the forum, but besides that, all operations are on HALT.

Before anyone starts any rumors, I WILL resume coding and all operations after the summer. (Pro'lly end august).

Hello all.

Several of you have reported server outages on miningbuddy.net. This was true due to unfortunate crashes of the apache server software. The reason for this is yet unknown. But I recompiled the server software with different settings and created a watchdog for the server so it will restart on failure. Both measures should counter the outages completely. On the bright side: The new server software is, due to different compile flags used, a lot faster than the old one.

Again, sorry for the outages.
